The DownPipe Loch®
Australia is in the grip of a debilitating drought with some of the most severe water restrictions in place around the country. When we do see rain, our present drainage system removes the rainfall from the roofline through the use of a downpipe but is then lost to our stormwater systems. We consistently upset the natural balance; this was not Mother Nature's intention.
The DownPipe Loch® can help you harness the 'lost' water, trap it and divert it to where it’s needed most around the house, the garden bed, the lawn, the pool or the water tank, thus complimenting 'the cycle of life'.
How it works
Unlike other systems, the DownPipe Loch® can handle big volumes of water — we don’t waste a drop. This device has 1 large and 2 smaller connections allowing an extraction capacity of about 75mm (the total of the 3 outlets) before the water reaches the overflow. There is virtually no limit as to where you direct the water. A plastic tap connected to each outlet could also regulate the supply. When rainfall occurs, the water is trapped in the device and diverted to a remote location of choice. In the event of torrential or heavy rain, any excess will travel through the overflow thus avoiding flooding. The DownPipe Loch® is of great use during light to medium rainfall where further water would be better utilised around the property rather than travelling into the storm water system. When no more water is required, attach the screwcaps onto the device, the water then enters the overflow and travels into the stormwater system as normal.
Testimonial
The Barloch water diverter (we have 3 installed) is unbelievable. We are harvesting so much water I was thinking of setting up a stall in the front yard!
Seriously though, I tried one of the other brands on the market but found Barloch's DownPipe Loch® to be, not only more superior in make and design, but the actual volume of water is far greater. With 3 different outlets, we've covered the garden the pool and the tank. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

For the Garden
Many garden beds in Australia are situated under the roofline, pergolas, carports etc. and do not receive sufficient rainfall afforded more open areas such as their lawn. Garden beds on the northeast face and hindered by sun awnings etc. will receive even less.
For the Pool
Enormous evaporation naturally occurs from swimming pools and the further north we travel, the greater the evaporation. All pools must be topped up and the DownPipe Loch® effectively provides the pool with otherwise 'lost' water. For a below ground pool, the DownPipe Loch® can be placed anywhere on the downpipe, preferably at the base. By connecting a hose/hoses to the outlets, any water entering the DownPipe Loch® will flow into the pool filter box with the excess travelling through the overflow of the pool. In the case of an above ground pool, the DownPipe Loch® must be placed on the downpipe, slightly higher than the pool level, in doing so, any excess will travel through the overflow of the Loch.
For Rain Water Tanks
A water tank’s location and installation is somewhat complicated. A water tank is connected to a downpipe; the overflow is then connected to the original downpipe or alternate storm water pipe. Many residents simply don’t have enough space at the side of their property and would prefer to have a tank at the rear of the property well out of sight. This is impossible because there are no downpipes generally in this location. However, the DownPipe Loch® will allow the tank to be placed at any location. By placing the DownPipe Loch® on the downpipe at the same height as the maximum water level of the tank, the water will simply flow into the tank, similar to that of an above ground pool. Any excess once again travels through the overflow of the Loch thereby making only one hose connection necessary.
Technical Information
The DownPipe Loch® has been designed to fit directly on 75mm round downpipes, otherwise you will need to purchase adaptors to suit your specific needs – i.e. round to rectangle etc. Screwcaps are supplied for all 3 outlets and it can be easily installed by D.I.Y. home handyman or your local plumber.
Using injection moulding, the DownPipe Loch® is made of A.B.S. and it’s U.V. resistant.
